ETU Provides COVID-19 Learning Simulations for Medical Workers

Written by ETU | June 02, 2020

ETU has partnered with Ireland’s Royal College of Surgeons to create an online simulation for medical workers who are on the front-lines of COVID-19.

The current health crisis has unfortunately put many medical workers in a tenuous situation of having to deliver upsetting news to family members and loved ones of patients with COVID-19. The new learning simulation will help them practice and enhance the way they are delivering the news -- in a safe, extremely realistic environment.

In the simulation, called COVID-19 Challenging Consultation, the learner plays the role of a hospital worker. The medical worker’s objective is to phone a patient’s relative and provide an update on the patient’s condition, which unfortunately has deteriorated.

Two standard methodologies for medical consultation were used in the design of the simulation.  The hope is that the simulation will give healthcare workers a chance to prepare before breaking bad news to a patient’s family.

ETU’s CEO, Declan Dagger, commented on the special project: “ETU is fortunate to have the opportunity to contribute to efforts during the COVID-19 crisis. Anything we can do to assist frontline medical workers during this time is especially meaningful work for our team.”
